We are excited to announce an opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join our Senior Management Team, becoming our next Vice Principal for Curriculum, Quality and Students. The Sixth Form Bolton is a fantastic place to work, and the role of Vice Principal is one of the most important to the success and life-chances of our dedicated and enthusiastic students.
We are the only specialist Sixth Form in the town, and the largest provider of A Level studies in the borough. As a Sixth Form, we concentrate on programmes that are for students aged 16-19. Our state-of-the art, modern, town centre campus provides students with the very best facilities to support their chosen programme of study.
The Sixth Form has a culture of high aspirations and expectations; we are very proud of our students and their exceptional levels of achievement and progression. We are already an OFSTED Grade 2 College, committed to reaching ‘Outstanding’ as soon as possible, and we have a higher-than-average progression to Higher Education. The Sixth Form Bolton was formed in the late 1990’s as the result of the merger of Bolton North and Bolton South Colleges to form a single, specialist Sixth Form. The Sixth Form Bolton performs well academically, and is ranked as one of the highest performing Colleges in the North West of England.
Students studying both academic and vocational qualifications perform significantly better at The Sixth Form Bolton, than national benchmarks. Our leavers then progress onto top universities (receiving offers from Oxford, Cambridge, and Russell Group Universities in 2023), or into apprenticeships and employment.
In 2023, our students achieved a pass rate of 98% on their A level courses, with 76% of all courses achieving a 100% pass rate. On the BTEC Extended Diploma, our students achieved higher-graded passes 93% of the time, and 97% of our students progressed into further courses of study at university, into apprenticeships, or into employment.
We have prepared a Brochure with highlights from our last OFSTED Report in October 2023. The Sixth Form Bolton was, once again, confirmed as 'Good'.

In terms of location, The Sixth Form Bolton occupies a modern and well-equipped Town Centre campus providing easy access to shopping and leisure facilities. The town itself has embarked on a long term and ambitious regeneration plan (Vision 2030) to attract business and investment to the Borough, to match workforce skills with modern opportunities and employment, and to build on the town’s current assets, so further developing Bolton as a vibrant and exciting place to live, work and study.
Further afield, the excellent regional motorway infrastructure makes commuting possible from almost anywhere in the North West, and The Sixth Form Bolton also has excellent local transport links, with the rail station and bus interchange just a few minutes’ walk from our front doors.
The Sixth Form, Bolton was inspected by OFSTED in October 2023 which confirmed our rating as ‘Good’, showing more positive progress, building on our previous ‘Good’ rating in 2017.
OFSTED inspectors commended the many positive practices that are taking place across all aspects of The Sixth Form. The report praised the quality of teaching, stating that “teachers are well qualified” and that “students benefit from effective teaching strategies”.
In 2023, there were 1,862 students enrolled at The Sixth Form Bolton, studying from 29 A levels, 13 level 3 certificates, two diplomas and seven extended diplomas, including business, health and social care, information technology, public services and sport science.
Students at The Sixth Form Bolton can, and often do, study a blend of A level and vocational courses. In 2023, just under two thirds of students followed a vocationally based curriculum with just over a third undertaking A levels.
